Faculty Orientation 2024: Two Days to the Beginning of a New Journey!

As the new semester begins, the Surabaya Integrated Science and Technology Institute (ISTTS) is organizing a Faculty Orientation (Osfak) for its incoming students. This event is designed to provide a meaningful experience and help new students adapt to the campus environment. The organizing committee has prepared a variety of engaging and challenging activities, promising not only fun but also valuable learning opportunities that will equip students with essential knowledge and skills for their academic journey at ISTTS.

During this Osfak, new students will delve deeper into their chosen faculty and study program. Through various activities, they will learn about campus culture, the lecture system, and build relationships with their peers and seniors. The fun and challenges presented in this Osfak are expected to foster a sense of camaraderie, enthusiasm, and readiness among new students as they embark on their academic journey at ISTTS. Let's explore the exciting moments that will unfold during the 2024 Faculty Orientation!

This year's ISTTS Faculty Orientation is divided into two groups: Engineering and Design. The Engineering group comprises students from Industrial Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Informatics, and Business Information Systems. Meanwhile, the Design group includes students from Visual Communication Design and Product Design. This division ensures that the activities are tailored to the specific interests and characteristics of students in each field, guaranteeing that every participant gains relevant insights and knowledge.

On the first day, the event commences with introductions from faculty members of each program, starting from the Head of the Department to all lecturers. This is a crucial moment for new students to get to know their academic advisors personally, fostering a sense of familiarity and comfort within the campus environment. Following the faculty introductions, the Osfak committee members from both the Design and Engineering fields will introduce themselves, building a sense of camaraderie and excitement for the upcoming activities.

After the introductions, the students were transported to Gerry Factory, where refreshments had been prepared. The journey to this location took about an hour and a half, providing an opportunity for students to interact and build relationships with each other. Upon arrival at Gerry Factory, all students took a group photo, marking their first memory as part of the ISTTS family, while they awaited the tour guide who would conduct a factory tour. These moments were expected to kickstart their academic journey with enthusiasm and zeal.

Once at Gerry Factory, students were guided to the second floor, which boasted a variety of attractive facilities such as a theater room, three game rooms, Chocolatos Café, restrooms, and a Gerry photo booth. The first activity on the second floor was watching a video showcasing the Chocolatos production process, from baking to distribution. By watching this video, students could gain a firsthand understanding of how the Chocolatos products they enjoyed daily were produced using modern technology. Afterwards, a Q&A session was held to delve deeper into information regarding the production process and business. The participants were then given the chance to taste liquid Chocolatos directly from Chocolatos Café, enhancing their experience of getting to know the products manufactured by Gerry.

Moreover, the atmosphere became even more lively when participants were given the opportunity to play in the available game area. To ensure everyone's comfort, students were divided into two groups (batches) to take turns entering a special room and experiencing the thrill of a 4D movie filled with surprises. The excitement did not end there! Students were also invited to take photos at various corners of the second floor, especially at the Gerry photo booth, creating cherished memories with their new friends. After thoroughly exploring the second floor, they returned to the initial registration room before heading to Gery Mart. Here, they could purchase various Gerry products as souvenirs before finally returning to campus. The first day of Osfak proved to be an unforgettable experience filled with fun, learning, and camaraderie!

The second day of the Faculty Orientation began with the registration of new students. The Engineering group registered in front of the auditorium, while the Design group registered in front of Building U. After registration, Engineering students gathered in the auditorium, while Design students headed to U4. The activities for the Design group commenced with a welcome from the committee, followed by the handover ceremony of the Student Association (HIMA) position. Ko Richard, a student from the 2021 batch, officially handed over the position to Juvence from the 2023 batch. Meanwhile, the Engineering group also started their event with an opening by the committee, marking the beginning of the planned activities for the day.

Following the opening ceremony, the Design group proceeded to the first game session with participants divided into groups. The game consisted of six stations and lasted approximately one hour, serving as a fun platform to foster camaraderie among the new students. After the game session, they had the privilege of listening to the experiences of Kak Amy, a Visual Communication Design (DKV) alumna, who shared her career journey in the creative industry. Following the speaker session, students were given a two-hour break for rest, prayer, and meals (ISHOMA). Meanwhile, the Engineering group commenced with a seminar delivered by Ir. Agus Djaja Gunawan MSc, MMin, who provided effective study tips and strategies for higher education. After a short break, they attended a second seminar by Dr. Ir. Hartanto Junaedi, S.Kom., M.Kom, discussing the world of engineering and Indonesian Professional Engineer certification. The Engineering activities then continued with a one-hour ISHOMA.

After ISHOMA, the Design group continued with an inspiring session from a Product Design (DESPRO) alumnus, now a renowned content creator. New students gained new insights into the world of creative content and how to utilize it in their design careers. This session was followed by a second game filled with excitement and challenges. Meanwhile, in the Engineering group, the committee explained the game mechanics before starting the prepared game session. After the game ended, the winners were announced and prizes were distributed. Both the Design and Engineering groups concluded the Osfak series with a grand celebration, leaving lasting memories and renewed enthusiasm for the new students as they embarked on their academic journey at ISTTS.

With the conclusion of this year's ISTTS Faculty Orientation, the new students have undergone a series of exciting and meaningful experiences. Throughout two days filled with activities, laughter, and learning, they have gained a deeper understanding of campus life and acquired valuable preparation for their upcoming academic journey.

This orientation was not merely an introductory event but also the beginning of new friendships, enthusiasm, and adventures. May the memories and lessons learned during Osfak serve as motivation and a strong foundation for all new students as they pursue their aspirations at ISTTS. Welcome and good luck, new ISTTS family! This is just the beginning of your incredible journey at this university!
